Beth is a deeply caring and highly committed early childhood educator whose calm presence and thoughtful, intentional practice make her a natural fit for the earliest years of schooling. A Maine native, she grew up in nearby Westbrook and has always maintained a strong connection to her community and the outdoors.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology from the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor in 2006. Shortly after graduating, an opportunity to teach at a college-run summer camp sparked what would become a lasting professional commitment to education. Over the following years, Beth worked as a substitute teacher and childcare provider in the greater Portland area, steadily refining her practice with young children.
In 2011, she moved across the country to continue her training and earned a Master’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Later that same year, during a visit back to Maine, she met her future husband, a native of Nantes, France. The couple ultimately chose to settle in Portland, where they are now raising their two daughters.
Since 2023, Beth has been teaching at L’École Française du Maine in Petite Section (TPS/PS), working daily with our youngest learners. In parallel, her two children have also been enrolled at the school since 2021, giving her a dual perspective as both an educator and a parent fully engaged in the life of the school.
A strong advocate for bilingual education, Beth is deeply committed to ensuring that young children grow up fluent in two languages and confident navigating two cultures. She firmly believes that early bilingualism fosters empathy, open-mindedness, and a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Beth is known for her gentle, steady demeanor and her ability to create a nurturing, reassuring classroom environment in which very young children feel safe, secure, and ready to explore. She is thrilled to continue her work as the lead teacher in Toute Petite Section, bringing her experience, warmth, and professionalism to this foundational stage of a child’s educational journey.
Outside of school, Beth enjoys spending time with her family and their dog, being outdoors, hiking, biking, and swimming during the summer at her parents’ camp on Little Sebago Lake. When time allows, she also enjoys knitting and reading.
