Katherine Mueller was born and raised in Maine, where her early experiences traveling to France to visit her grandparents and extended family sparked a lifelong interest in language, culture, and global perspectives. Her diverse passions—from dance to tall ship sailing—eventually led her to the field of cultural and social anthropology.
Katherine earned a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Connecticut College in 2004, where she later served as the department’s Production Manager. She went on to pursue graduate studies that combined her interests in anthropology and performance. She holds a Doctorate in Anthropology from the University of Connecticut (2021), as well as dual master’s degrees, including a Master of Arts in Dance Anthropology from Roehampton University in London (2015).
Her doctoral research focused on cross-cultural collaboration in dance and theater companies in London, exploring the complex dynamics of identity and representation in artistic practice. Katherine has taught extensively in higher education and is particularly passionate about helping students reflect on their own cultural values and assumptions.
Now part of the team at L’École Française du Maine, Katherine brings her rich academic background to the elementary classroom, where she embraces new opportunities to engage young learners. Since returning to Maine in 2021, she and her daughter have been enjoying the beauty of rural life, immersing themselves in nature and creating as many art projects as they can together.
