Mary Furth joined L’École Française du Maine as a piano instructor in 2024, bringing over a decade of teaching experience and a lifelong dedication to music education. Her musical journey began at age four as a Suzuki Method student in New York, where she trained with Juilliard-accredited instructors who instilled in her a love of music and technical excellence. Mary continued her studies at Colby College, where she studied under the mentorship of esteemed pianist Yuri Funahashi.
After completing her degree, Mary devoted herself to teaching in underserved New York City schools, an experience that strengthened her commitment to accessible, high-quality music education. In 2016, she founded her own successful piano studio on Maine Street in Brunswick, where she currently teaches 30 students weekly. Her students frequently participate in local recitals and music events, gaining valuable performance experience.
Mary’s teaching philosophy centers on adapting lessons to each student’s unique strengths, interests, and learning styles. Her lessons incorporate essential music fundamentals, technique, and theory while encouraging personal expression and creativity. Additionally, her experience working with neurodiverse children at Pathways of Maine has enhanced her ability to design inclusive, engaging, and adaptive learning environments.
Mary lives in Freeport with her three young children, who are also students at L’École Française du Maine. She is dedicated to professional growth and remains active in exploring innovative teaching methodologies to continually enrich her students’ learning experiences.
