Originally from the island of Mauritius, Valerie Khaloo brings a warm approach, a multilingual background, and four years of experience as a teacher’s assistant to L’École Française du Maine. She speaks French, English, and Mauritian Creole and is delighted to join the school’s bilingual and multicultural community.
Valerie moved to the United States in 2016 and later returned to school after eighteen years, reflecting her strong belief in lifelong learning. While continuing her studies, she worked as a teacher’s assistant in Ithaca, New York, where she completed child development training through the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. She subsequently relocated to Brunswick, Maine.
Her commitment to the well-being of children and adults also inspired her to pursue a degree in social work, with the goal of becoming a therapist. Valerie believes that learning and growth continue throughout life—a perspective she brings to her work with children and her collaboration with colleagues. In her role as a classroom assistant and aftercare teacher, she looks forward to supporting students throughout the day and contributing to a welcoming, caring school environment.
Outside school, Valerie enjoys scuba diving, swimming, walking, traveling, and discovering different cuisines. Music and meditation are important parts of her life, and her interest in languages has sparked a desire to learn Italian.
