Welcome to the 26–27 School Year!

Dear EFDM Families,

On behalf of our entire faculty and staff, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2026–2027 school year at L’École Française du Maine!

The first day of school may just be my favorite day of the year. I love seeing our returning students, who seem to have grown several inches since June, walk up the ramp with such confidence in their step. I love the renewed energy of our teachers, rested and ready. And perhaps most of all, it is a special pleasure to welcome our newest friends, students arriving with so much curiosity and the wonderful opportunity to discover all that EFDM has to offer.

Whether you are joining L’École Française du Maine for the first time or returning for another year, we are so happy you are here! There is something particularly special about being part of a small village school, where community and connection are at the heart of it all.

This year, we are especially excited to welcome several new members to our faculty and staff. They bring wonderful experience, enthusiasm, and new perspectives that will add to the richness of our bilingual and international community. We are also incredibly fortunate to have so many returning teachers and staff members whose knowledge, dedication, and care provide an important sense of continuity.

This new school year also feels particularly special, in a personal way, for me. While I have had the privilege of being part of the EFDM community in my role as School Director for several years, this year I will also experience the school as a parent of a new student. I am excited to see our school through that lens, to share in the excitement of a first day, new friendships, new routines, and all of the small moments that make up a child’s experience during the school day. It is a wonderful reminder for me of the trust we ask of every family when they place their children in our care.

I am incredibly grateful to work alongside our teachers and staff to create a school where children feel known, supported, curious, and inspired. And as a parent, I know how meaningful it is to feel connected to the people and community surrounding your child. As I hope you know by now, my door is always open, whether you have a question, a concern, an idea, or simply want to stop in and say hello. I look forward to getting to know our new families, reconnecting with returning ones, and sharing what I hope will be another wonderful year together throughout the seasons here in Maine.

We’ll see you soon!

Emily Smith, School Director
